Question by Jerrythemathguy23: What are the most basic symptoms of diabetes?
I’ve always had lots of sugar, and don’t seem to have symptoms of diabetes. How can I know if I have it?
Also, how do you know if you have bad blood? I ask because I’ve always ate unhealthy food, for like 10 years.

Best answer:

Answer by natural_born_healer_67
Some of the earlier symptoms of type 2 diabetes include frequent urination, excessive thirst and hunger, weight loss despite adequate food intake, and persistent fatigue. Later symptoms can include neuropathy and retinopathy, which manifest with pain in the feet, possible numbness and sores that are slow to heal, and with blurry vision or other visual disturbances.

The only way to diagnose diabetes is by blood test, so if you think you may have diabetes, you should contact your health care provider. Diabetes is usually diagnosed with a fasting blood glucose level of 126 mg/dL on two separate occasions, or a random glucose level of 200 mg/dL or more.

It is good that you are aware of your poor dietary habits. The next step is to work towards a healthier diet. Don’t try to change too many things at once, because that will only set you up for failure. Instead, make a list of all the unhealthy habits you have, and then come up with a healthy habit to replace the unhealthy one with. Next, go down the list and focus on each habit one at a time. For example, you may want to start by trying to eliminate all sodas you drink and replace them with water. Once you have done so successfully, tackle the next task. It usually takes about 21 days to develop a new habit or routine, so give yourself time and be gentle with yourself.

Best answer:

Answer by Jason G
I was diagnosed with type 2 in October of last year, and I think I had it a long time before I did something about it. First you are thirsty all the time, and then of course, you have to pee all the time. I would be fine during the day and then just feel miserable for no apparent reason, although now, it was because my blood glucose was either really too high or way too low. But get a blood test from your doctor, and have him run the hemaglobin A1 test, it will tell you real quick if you have diabetes or not. It is basically a 3 month history of your blood-glucose level. Most non diabetics are arounf 6 – 6.5, mine was 13! It means my blood glucose level had been over 300 for months which is really dangerous. I am now controling diabetes with just diet and exercise and feeling a lot better. GOOD LUCK! Don’t take diabetes lightly, it can be a really bad disease.

Question by Maria Garcia: Could someone outline the types of diabetes and treatments and the signs and symptoms?
I know diabetes can’t be cured but whether it’s injections or tablets etc. Thanks!
No it’s not homework. My dad thinks that he might have diabetes and I’m worried that I could have it too so I just want to know a little bit more about it.

Best answer:

Answer by Jessica
This can’t really be answered in a short space. For example, some people are able to control their diabetes just with diet and exercise, some need pills in addition to the diet and exercise, and some need injections with diet and exercise. Some people who need injections also need pills. The treatment will depend on the patient.

For the rest of your homework (and it IS homework, isn’t it?) you can very easily find the answers with a search engine. There’s a lot of nonsense on the internet about diabetes, but there’s a lot of good information, too. Look at the Mayo Clinic and American Diabetes Association websites, they’re very reliable.

Question by Carmen: What is the metabolic abnormality that underlies the characteristic symptoms of diabetes mellitus?
What is the metabolic abnormality that underlies the characteristic symptoms of diabetes mellitus?
A. A failure of the kidney tubules to reabsorb glucose from the urine
B. A failure of the villi of the intestine to absorb glucose from food
C. The body can’t switch from glucose metabolism to fat metabolism between meals.
D. The body’s cells can’t retain glucose absorbed from the blood.
E. The body’s cells can’t absorb enough glucose from the blood.

Best answer:

Answer by cmd617
I believe it is E.
Insulin, which is secreted by the Pancreas, helps to control the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. When the Pancreas does not secrete enough Insulin or none at all, the sugar remains in the blood. Then the body tries to flush out all of the sugar by drinking and urinating- two key symptoms of diabetes.

Answer by Puppy Zwolle
You don’t.

If those 3 are combined you are in serious trouble.

You probably are overweight and did not visit a doctor in years even though you should have. You pee a lot are always thirsty and feel that drinking does not help you. You are in pain all the time, not much perhaps but uncomfortably at any rate. You are a heart-attack waiting to happen if the diabetic coma does not get you first.

Good luck.

Question by Soccer Chic: What were your symptoms when first diagnosed with diabetes? Or did you have any symptoms at all?
I really think i have diabetes and i want to hear what some all ready diagnosed peoples symptoms were. And what is a normal blood glucose level for someone that does not know they have diabetes?
I am a kid at a healthy weight

Best answer:

Answer by an ge
depends on the type.

I assume you’re older? And possibly overweight? or pregnant?
frequent urine, and being thirsty are two signs. If you’re drinking 3 gallons of water a day and still thirsty, you have a problem.
Type 2 is linked to poor diet and lack of exercise.

If you’re worried about getting it, try to cut back on sugar, sweets, junk food (yes mcdonalds is junk, so is all fast food) and try to increase exercise. Doesn’t have to be strenuous, this can be as simple as walking 30 minutes a day.

If you’re still relatively young, you might have type 1. Symptoms are the same as above, except with rapid weight loss depite eating heaps and mental deterioration.

Answer by UWS
Can’t you just make your mom listen to you? If you’re her child then she must care about you if you’re in pain.

Answer by Aveygold
Diabetes is extremely bad for you. You have to take a shot and check your blood pressure before you eat. Blindness is what happened to my Grandma because she has diabetes. Also you can lose control of your arm, or leg. There is no cure for diabetes but the best thing to do is stay away from sugar! If you can’t resist then only take things with just a little bit of sugar! If you don’t have it too much sugar can cause the diabetes. I wish you the best and hope you don’t have it
