Question by Livabetes give me sugar dizzies: Why should those with diabetes wear shoes all the time?
Earlier today I read an article about shoes and the different problems with different kinds of shoes.

I can’t find it anymore, which is why I didn’t post the link.

But in the article, it said that someone with diabetes or would likely eventually get diabetes should never go without shoes; whether inside or outside their house.

Why would that be? Thanks for any help in understanding this.

Best answer:

Answer by Lucie
To protect our feet from getting little cuts that won’t heal. Maybe a splinter so tiny you barely feel it, until it’s infected.
A diabetics feet & legs doesn’t heal as a normal person’s does.

Question by Shan: How many Grams of Carbs should someone with type 2 diabetes, or gestational diabetes intake a day?
I am waiting for my second round of blood work to come back with the results as to whether or not i have gestational diabetes. My OB said she is pretty sure it will come back positive so while im waiting for the final results i want to make sure im not ingesting to many carbs. What is the suggested intake of carbs for someone with gestational diabetes and/or Type 2 diabetes?

Best answer:

Answer by Nathaniel’s Mommy
15 grams of carbs is equal to 1 serving of carbs on a diabetic diet exchange.

When I was pregnant and had GD, my dietitian allowed me 1 serving of carbs for b’fast, and two for lunch and two for dinner. Select health carbs, whole grain…

Hope that helps.

Best answer:

Answer by gretch
dark chocolate is the only chocolate you should eat for your health. try and get 70% or higher cocoa. milk chocolate is better than white chocolate… white chocolate isn’t even real chocolate. milk chocolate isn’t good for you b/c it is too high in saturated fat and doesn’t contain enough antioxidants to be considered good for you.

yes, diabetes is linked to cardiovascular disease. if you eat crap, and don’t exercise, you will probably become diabetic at some point in your life

I want to do the one that no one out of my class would pick….Topics below
I that I thought were interesting.
Retina Detachment is the separation of the retina from the back of the eye.

Retinitis Pigmentosa is actually the name given to a group of hereditary eye disorders, all of which involve the eye’s retina, the light-sensitive nerve layer that lines the back of the eye, and all of which cause a gradual, yet progressive, loss or reduction in visual ability.

Strabismus is crossed eyes

Uveitis is a condition that occurs in the uvea, or the middle coat of the eye. Because the uvea contains the blood vessels that supply nutrients to the eye, any form of uveitis may be serious and may be a symptom for other serious conditions.

Diabetic Retinopathy is a disorder of the retina resulting from changes in the eye blood vessels and found in some people who have diabetes.

My Dad has diabetes and all he does is sleep in bed all day everyday. He needs help to go to the toilet and changes his mood every second. His eyes always get swollen and he is super thin! I don’t know what food to make for him since he can’t have oil, fat, and fried foods! I don’t know what to do!

Best answer:

Answer by Jay S
The thing to do is to get him moving. He needs to walk at least 45 minutes a day. For diet, think green. Broccoli, spinach, cabbage, kale, salads. Add skinless broiled chicken or fish for protein. Turkey is also good. For bread, stick with brown. Avoid the white foods (white bread, potatoes). Take it easy. You will get through this.

He sounds like he is also depressed.

Question by Wolven: List the people who should receive the kidney in order of who deserves it or needs it the most.?
Ok the following list is ten people who need a kidney. This is not real. Purely hypothetical. Normally in medicine they decide off of who is the healthiest and has a better chance of living a long life. These rules need not apply if you do not want them to.

Basically I am giving you free reign to decide how to judge which of these people should get a kidney.

1)A pregnant women with AIDS who works as a prostitute.

2) A member of a militant terrorist group who is in the US and is feared to have been planning an attack on the US.

3) A 40 year old diabetic male who is blind from diabetic retinopathy. (damage to the eye)

4) A 50 year old male in prison for murdering his pregnant wife 15 years ago.

5) A 35 year old mother of 3 girls who has breast cancer. She has been treated for a year and is not cured but the chemo has destroyed her kidneys. Cancer has spread to her lungs and possibly bones.

6) A 44 year old male alcoholic who has had no success with AA or any other form of treatment for his alcohol problem.

7) 70 year old female with severe osteoporosis and fractured hip.
15 year old teen who Over Dosed on drugs. He has permanent brain damage from the OD and is addicted to cocaine.

9) A 35 year old male in prison for rape.

10) 10 year old boy who is blind and deaf and has several other birth defects.

So you decide in which order they should get the kidney. If you can, give your philosophical or even personal opinion on why you ordered them as you did.
This is NOT homework help. It was just mentioned in class and I found it interesting.

Best answer:

Answer by turk
i’d say all deserve it. they all have to endure what god hath gifted! especially at a time of technological marvel age

Lately I’ve found myself urinating quite oftem, very thristy, and feeling very nauseated when I have eaten something in a few hours. Could this possibly be symptons of diabetes?

Diabetes does run in the family and I just found out that two more realitives were diagnosed. They are much older though, I’m only 23. I’m hoping that I am just being paranoid.

What are the symptoms and what can I do to make sure I don’t get them if at all possible?

Best answer:

Answer by Max
Get your blood sugar tested by a doctor, or by a family member who has a blood glucose meter.

I want some advice/second opinion if you will about this. I walked for about 10 minutes this morning from the bus to work and as soon as I sat down I had a giant floater in my right eye. From 30 cm away it’s footprint would cover 40cm high and ten cm wide. It is not complete darknes or anything but just like tens of flaoter in a clump. I contacted my Opthamologist and he said wait till I see hime next in six day and take it easy and don’t lift heavy objects. My concern is I could do damage by doing normal activity or is it going get worse – he calls it a bleed by that is plain disconcerting to me. Your comments welcomed.
