Question by Richy is f0cking awesome!!!!: What are the usual signs that a person has diabetes?
I went to my GP yesterday as a follow-up appointment after being diagnosed with cellulitis in the foot. A number of other concerns were raised about my circulation and my heart which were showing some bad results after checking blood pressure. They said I am also very low on oxygen due to shortness of breath. I am going for some tests on Monday and Tuesday to find out whether I do have diabetes and anything else but what are the usual signs that a person has diabetes?

Best answer:

Answer by Jeri D
Thirsty more than usual, having to urinate more than usual or get up at night, tired especially after eating a lot of sugar or carbs, gaining weight around the abdomen or a trunk like stomach if you are older, some people have facial spasms or changed in vision.

Question by Juju..Jelly belly..: How does diabetes affect a person that has one kidney?
Diabetes runs in my family and I am scared that I might get it. I recently found out that I was born with one kidney. I havent spoken to a doctor yet but i am curious. Can a person with one kidney and diabetes live a normal life?

Best answer:

Answer by The Doc
Well, first off, having one kidney has a prognosis or a normal life span (I know this because my son was born with one kidney, so I did the research, as long as there are no other abnormalities, lifespan is the same as anyone else).
The same cannot be said for diabetes, it does shorten lifespan, by quite a bit if not controlled, whether you have one or two kidneys. The best thing to do if you have a strong family history of diabetes is to eat well, exercise regularly, keep your weight in the normal range and see your doctor regularly to check up on you so that you minimize the chance that it does develop and catch it early to begin treatment if it’s unavoidable.

Best answer:

Answer by Jay S
The thing to do is to get him moving. He needs to walk at least 45 minutes a day. For diet, think green. Broccoli, spinach, cabbage, kale, salads. Add skinless broiled chicken or fish for protein. Turkey is also good. For bread, stick with brown. Avoid the white foods (white bread, potatoes). Take it easy. You will get through this.

He sounds like he is also depressed.

Best answer:

Answer by Smarty Pants
I’m not a diabetic myself, but my mother is. It has improved her health in starting to eat right. Eating right is the key to a healthy life. Having diabetes helps you to keep track of what you eat, and what you shouldn’t eat. Since I don’t have it, I never pay attention to what I eat, and come down with random illnesses. My mother on the other hand watches what she eats and therefore rarely every catches an illness.

Hope it helped!
