Question by Mike: What are the chances of me getting diabetes?
I was wondering what the chances of me are of getting diabetes. My grand mom has diabetes(well I think she does she has a machine to check her blood sugar but i never saw her inject herself with insolen) and both of her sisters sons also have diabetes. I think there are about 1 or 2 more people who have it but I cant think of them.

Also does your diet have any effect on wether you can get diabetes or not and how often should I get checked for it?

There is a possibility you can get it. Cut down or keep away from sugars, sweets and carbs.

I found out that my dad has been diagnosed as having pre-diabetes. I was told that I may have some of the symptoms that may indicate the same thing. For instance, I get shaky and irritable if I haven’t eaten in a long while. How can I modify my diet so that I won’t get diabetes and have to be on insulin all the rest of my life?

Eat a balanced diet, cut out alot of processed sugar, exercise. Type 2 diabetes is almost in every case preventable through a healthy life style. If you feel irritable don’t go for something sugary, eat something with alot of fiber like whole grain bread or things with complex carbohydrates like potatoes, this raises your glucose levels slower and keeps them going longer

As far as I know, diabetes doesn’t run in my family. My dad has high cholesterol, 2 of my aunts and my mom have high blood pressure, another aunt has a thyroid problem, and my dad’s cousin died from pancreatic cancer. Are my chances high? I’ve heard a lot of these link to diabetes, but I’m not sure which one I’m at risk to get if at all.
I forgot to mention I am 19 years old if that helps.

get a fasting glucose test. it,s big in my family. i,ve never had an issue in my 62 years.

Why do you think so many more people are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in recent years than ever before? One of my guesses is all of the preservatives and junk that has been included in people’s diets as more prepared foods have been in the markets, and fast foods.

I’m really scared that I’m going to get type 1 diabetes. I match two of the symtoms of it: extreem hunger and fatigue. Type 1 diabetes runs in my family, my sister, and great grandparents had it.

I’m 11 weeks pregnant. Right now about the only things I can keep down good with no problems are popsicles and jello. I heard that if you eat alot of sugar that you’ll get gestational diabetes. Now I’m scared. Ne tips on how to make sure I don’t get it. Does it just happen randomly?

I have hypoglycemia……for life. Is there any way for me to get diabetes? If i can, then how? I just want to know so i can live a healthy life and shy away from bad areas that will cause me to get unhealthy.
