Question by thbeatgozon69: How do I keep from getting type 2 diabetes?
I found out that my dad has been diagnosed as having pre-diabetes. I was told that I may have some of the symptoms that may indicate the same thing. For instance, I get shaky and irritable if I haven’t eaten in a long while. How can I modify my diet so that I won’t get diabetes and have to be on insulin all the rest of my life?

Best answer:

Answer by Quietscherin
Eat a balanced diet, cut out alot of processed sugar, exercise. Type 2 diabetes is almost in every case preventable through a healthy life style. If you feel irritable don’t go for something sugary, eat something with alot of fiber like whole grain bread or things with complex carbohydrates like potatoes, this raises your glucose levels slower and keeps them going longer

Question by singlewhitemalekc70: Is it possible to get diabetes from eating too much natural fruit?
I have been drinking 100% natural frozen orange juice concentrate for several years now. I always thought this was a very healthy thing to do(relative to a soda pop addiction I still believe it is) but from an overall health standpoint and articles on Dr. Mercolas website, drinking concentrated fruit juices is not all that healthy since it causes spikes in blood sugar levels. So i have given up frozen concentrate juices and replaced them with plain old fruit to satisy my sugar cravings. Im eating watermelon constantly throughout the day. I’ve been doing this for a couple months now. Well, I just read in Trivia’s Vitajournal that “the average person should eat no more than 32 grams of sugar per day.” The article then goes on to show that a large apple has 22 grams of sugar. So according to this article if I eat 2 large apples a day Im eating too much sugar. Is it possible to get diabetes by eating too much all natural God given fruit such as apples and watermelon?

Best answer:

Answer by m88b
NO! NO! NO! NO!

eating too much sugar does NOT cause diabetes. thats a MYTH. eating too much sugar eventually makes ya fat. being overweight is one of the main factors in developing type 2 diabetes

Question by The King: How many people in the United States suffer from Diabetic Retinopathy?

Best answer:

Answer by lindsey_osborne
Diabetic retinopathy refers to abnormalities in the small blood vessels of the retina caused by diabetes. There are different types of retinopathy:
– Non-proliferative retinopathy is the most common and usually doesn’t affect vision.
– Proliferative retinopathy is more serious and causes bleeding within the eye and swelling of the retina due to new blood vessels growing / branching out. This can lead to blindness.

Nearly all patients with Type 1 diabetes will develop some form of retinopathy after 20 years of being diagnosed. Up to 21% of Type 2 diabetics have retinopathy when diagnosed and will likely develop some degree after diagnosis. In the US, diabetes is responsible for 8% of all cases of legal blindness. Each year 15000 to 39000 people lose their sight due to diabetic complications.

All these are reasons to be sure to have a dilated eye exam at least once a year if you have diabetes. These complications, including retinopathy, can be prevented if proper precautionary measures are taken. Talk to your doctor / eye care professional for more information on diabetic retinopathy.

Good luck and best wishes with your search….
