Question by girl_in_vernon: What are good staple foods to have at home for people with diabetes?
I have diabetes and usually get a salad for lunch at work and make chicken for dinner. This is my first winter really focusing on my eating and I live in the Northeast, with are first full storm last week I realized that my days of laying around with friends eating popcorn and watching movies may be over on a day off. What do other store in their home’s for those snack attacks.
I’m looking for non-parashiable items for when we get these sudden snow storms.

Best answer:

Answer by FishStory
Popcorn’s fine as a snack – just control the portion and coun the carbs.
Make a big pot of vegatable soup, freeze it in portions and microwave a bowl when you need something. You can use a meat based stock or a veggie stock.
Sugar free hot cocoa
Jelly Belly makes some sugar free jelly beans in a lot of flavors, so you can have a handful and munch on them, like the popcorn.
String cheese is also a nice snacky thing.

Answer by Katherine T
umm well when u have diabetes,u cant take it back but u can reduce it!!i suggest eating more vegetables and fruits and cutting back on sweets.u should cut back on sweets and the “junkfood”.wheat bread and salads with no dressing(maybe italian but definately not ranch)!
those two foods are the best things to prevent them!anything with no sugar bascially but it can have some, just dont over do it! HOPE this helps!

Best answer:

Answer by MeliseR
Need to stay away from sugar, carbohydrates, etc. Everything in moderation and need to always keep track of your sugar. This is not a death sentence if you keep track of things.

I have invited a couple over for a BBQ this weekend. The woman is 36 weeks pregnant and has gestational diabetes. I know she isn’t supposed to eat breads and things of that nature but what else should I avoid. I don’t want her to come over and then not be able to eat anything. Are eggs okay, like deviled eggs? Is steak or chicken better? Cheese okay? I suppose noodles are off limits… I am trying to think of appetizers and such, not just the main course.
Any advice is appreciated!
