Does anyone know what foods to avoid if you suspect someone has Type 2 Diabetes? Also, what foods to definitely consume that will help with the weight loss/whatever else is needed?

Need to stay away from sugar, carbohydrates, etc. Everything in moderation and need to always keep track of your sugar. This is not a death sentence if you keep track of things.

anyone here have diabetic retinopathy? if so, how much has it affected your vision? do you see moving spots in your line of vision? does bright light hurt your eyes? had surgery for this? thank you so much for you input!

I did have diabetic retinopathy several years ago. It would cause dark streamers and floaters to occasionally appear in my eyesight, sometimes for days at a time. It did not sunstantially hinder my eyesight at that stage, but it was both annoying and distressing. (They are actually tiny capillaries leaking on your retina.) Thirteen painful laser surgeries later and my eyesight was back to normal. I’ve been fine ever since. If you’ve been diabetic a long time (80% of all diabetics who have had diabetes for 15 years) or have poor blood glucose control, chances are very high it will eventually happen. It can lead to blindness, if untreated. Concerning bright lights, I am told the surgery can cause that side effect, but I have not noticed a significant change in that regard. My night driving seems normal to me. The procedure I had was panretinal photocoagulation (PRP). You can read more here:

Hi My mom has Diabetic retinopathy to my understanding its in advace stages its making her partially blind we’re are tryin to make it so her vision is better went to the eye dr she had laser surgery on both eyes but it didnt help dr said behind her eyes the blood didnt dry up and its still real swelled he suggested injections in the whites of her eyes she had one injection done 4 more times to go has anyone ever had this done? did it help your vision? I know her vision will never be perfect again but we want her to be able to see better then she does now and dont want her going blind …if anyone has any feedback on these injections can you please let me know thanks for taking the time reading my question

These injections are steroids. It is usually effective, but not always. Good luck.

My dad has diabetes and high blood pressure and we really have to change his diet, he is having surgery on Monday due to his diabetes issue and we really have to step up the change in the kitchen. Anyone with ideas thanks!!!

I just found out that I have diabetes Type 2. I know I have to stay away from jams, jellies, etc. What are the best protein items I can eat to help me stay healthy? Any other vegetarian/diabetes info would be helpful. I want to try to go veggie for this!

Today my wife went for her 28 week screening, she had blood sugar of 175. They want her to do a second longer test. Has anybody here had gestational diabetes? Or high blood sugar that was later proven to not to be gestational diabetes? Please anyone who has knowledge help me to calm my wife! Thanks.

I hear all these remedies for type 2 diabetes but none for gestational diabetes. I tried asking this question in the pregnancy section but no one answered. Any information would be helpful and appreciated. I’m seeing a dr and dietician and doing all i can to keep blood sugar down but it’s not working as well as i’d like.

She is a 10 year old collie mix. She has been diagnosed with diabetes. The vet has prescribed Humulin now up to 13 units twice a day and a slice of cheese. We had switched her from Dog Chow to Pro Plan senior which made it worse. She is at 349 mg currently, losing weight and not eating well. We are trying to figure out what food to try and what to do next. Please help.
