Question by MadeYouReadThis: I have a few questions about gestational diabetes and seeing a perinatologist?
I am going to start seeing the perinatologist for uncontrolled gestational diabetes. Will I still see the OB on a regular basis and only go to the perinatologist for the diabetes also? Will my regular OB still do the delivery or will the perinatologist do it? What can I expect out of my visits with the new doctor and what sort of extra testing will they do on the baby if I have to take insulin?

Best answer:

Answer by Barbara L
You should be sent to a die titan for a diabetic diet that will be tailored to your and your baby’s needs. I had gestational diabetes. I was sent to a dietitian who gave me a diet and followed me. I was also given a blood glucose meter to check my blood sugar 4 times per day. I was seen every two weeks for followup by my OB. This included ultrasounds, blood work, etc. My OB was a professor of medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven CT who handled high risk pregnancies. My OB delivered my daughter. Best of luck.

His blood sugar has been consistently high in the mornings (around 250.) He just had a scare with a foot wound and his eye doctor has found the first signs of diabetic retinopathy.

He’s a quiet guy and doesn’t discuss all of this openly with me. I know what is going on as far as all the medical issues because I ask him pointedly about it. I just don’t know what he is personally feeling. I’ve told him that I think he should find a better doctor and start eating better. I’ve actually begged and implored him to do so. I think the biggest problem is his diet. He eats a large volume of food daily. I think he needs a daily caloric limit set. I am currently seeing a dietician myself and think at least a session or two would be so great for him to set a diet. How do I get him to work on his health?

Question by Momiji: What activity could I do to entertain and inform my listeners about diabetes?
I am doing a presentation on diabetes and I need to keep my audience entertained and informed.
What activity could I do to make a presentation about diabetes fun. I already have all the information that I need but it just seems boring especially for a bunch of 17-19 year olds. Can anyone help me? My presentation revolves around teen and adult diabetes if that helps.

Best answer:

Answer by Lindsey
Well..
I have type one diabetes and anyone who knows anyone about the disease (as I’m sure you do) knows it’s not something ‘fun’.
But of course, you don’t want to bore your audience to death.

I cannot really think of any way to make if fun, but don’t just throw facts at the audience. Use examples, tell stories, ect. I know what I’m much more interested in a more personal presentation than someone naming stupid statistics.

Wish I could be more help.
Feel free to message me if you need any info.

Question by Relationship_issues: What do chiropractors believe about diabetes control?
I know that they are an alternative medicine type doctor, and that they can’t write prescriptions, which for a doctor sounds a little suspicious to me, but wondered specifically what a chiropractor doctor believed about diabetes control? Do they believe/ support insulin for treatment or have the belief that diabetes can be controlled with back adjustments and a better diet?

Best answer:

Answer by tonalc1
They are not M.D.s; only physicians, dentists and (surprisingly) podiatrists can write prescriptions. Also in some states pharmacists and optometrists. Nothing suspicious about that, especially since they don’t use drugs in their treatments.

They don’t consider it a cure (at least the legit ones don’t), but rather that it can be used as part of integrative treatment.

I want some advice/second opinion if you will about this. I walked for about 10 minutes this morning from the bus to work and as soon as I sat down I had a giant floater in my right eye. From 30 cm away it’s footprint would cover 40cm high and ten cm wide. It is not complete darknes or anything but just like tens of flaoter in a clump. I contacted my Opthamologist and he said wait till I see hime next in six day and take it easy and don’t lift heavy objects. My concern is I could do damage by doing normal activity or is it going get worse – he calls it a bleed by that is plain disconcerting to me. Your comments welcomed.
