Can someone take insulin tablets ihey suspect they might have diabetes but are afraid to discover it?
Posted in Definition on 15. Apr, 2010
I have a friend who is nearly 50 and gets fainting spells from time to time & feels tired easily & has some short term memory loss. He feels he might have diabetes but is afraid to find out because psychologically he is not prepared.
He is thinking about trying out insulin tablets just to see if that helps.
Is there a danger in doing so ?
Any comments or suggestions ?
He doesn’t know English.

That is not safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, he could die from doing that. Make him see a doctor asap.
OK I am a diabetic.. Found out when I was 15 I am now 29. I take insulin twice a day. I started out with pills but after a year they stopped working.
Where in the hell would he get pills from without a prescription? Also they have different milligrams..some low some high. He could go into a coma if he takes them without seeing a doctor. I almost went into one 2 times because my sugar dropped very low.
I found out I was a diabetic, because I was sooooo very thirsty. Water, soda, milk, chocolate milk, all kinds of drinks in 1 day and nothing stopped the thirst. I went to the doctor and he took my blood and it was almost 500….I got a shot right away… then the pills and went through a lot of tests.
Pleas advise him to see a doctor as I don’ t believe it’s diabetes and he could kill himself not knowing how many to take or taking someones pills. This is very serious…You could save his life by getting him to a doctor.
Insulin does NOT come in a pill form. Diabetic tablets contain other medications, and should only be used under a doctor’s supervision and with bloodwork.
From your description, your friend is more likely to be suffering from a cardiovascular issue, not diabetes. Weakened heart muscle may seem to be fine to the owner, but in reality is not able to supply enough oxygen to the brain and body, thus accounting for the tiredness, fainting, and memory problems.
He should see a doctor SOON. Like tomarrow morning, if not tonight. I’d recommend tonight.
Best case senario, he will only need medication or a pace maker.
Worst case senario, there may be blockages causing a stroke or a silent heart attack is already in progress.
That is stupid, insulin drops your sugars, he could easly kill himself by doing this. Someone who is not diabetic needs to stay away from insulin or they will most likely die. Even diabetics have to be careful not to overdose and to take less when excersizing. Tell him to not be stupid. He needs to go to a doctor and have the tests, diabetes isn’t that bad, maybe in the beginning but he will learn to live with it, it took me a few months, but then I didn’t really think to much about it, but test my sugars, take my insulin, watch for signs. It becomes part of your routine. Plus there isn’t oral insulin, insulin is in shots, type 2’s can take an oral medication, but it’s not insulin…
Self-diagnosis and treatment are very dangerous. You can’t get that type of medication without a prescription and even if you could how would you know it is the RIGHT medication? Using the wrong meds can have tragic consequences. He’s not psychologically ready to hear the diagnosis but he’s ready to take the meds for it?
Get him to a doctor asap. He needs to be PROFESSIONALLY examined and diagnosed so that he can get the right treatment and start feeling better.
Using any diabetic medications can cause unsafe drops in sugar levels if they are not needed. Stop guessing. Get to a doctor for a full check up. It could be something else.
Just like everyone has said – NO, its not likely he could get insulin (injectable) or pills without seeing a doctor. The symptoms do not sound like diabetes and it does sound like he needs to see someone about what is happening. It does sound like heart or circulation problems.
There is no such thing as an insulin pill. Sorry, but I’ve been a type 1 diabetic FOR 54 YEARS., so I KNOW there is no such thing as an “insulin pill”. If you ingest insulin, it gets broken down in the stomach by acids and digestive enzymes, so that once it enters the bloodstream it is no longer insulin. Insulin has to be injected to be effective. All the type 2 diabetes oral medications do is stimulate your body to produce more insulin naturally, along with diet. There is no such thing as an “insulin pill.”
Your friend is a fool, and is taking extreme chances with his health.
As others have said, there’s no such thing as “insulin pills”.
When a patient takes insulin, or oral antidiabetic medications, he has to get laboratory tests to find out his basic measurements. Then his doctor has to figure out how much medicine to start off with, and will give other instructions, such as diet and exercise program. Then the patient has to test himself several times during the day, to see how his body reacts to the medicine and new lifestyle. The patient needs to be overseen by the doctor.
Insulin and other diabetic medications are sold by prescription only. Just where does your friend think he’s going to get these medications? Off a street dealer? That source isn’t really reliable, how does a buyer know that he’s getting a pure, quality product, or even the product that he wants? Street dealers are notorious for cutting the products or even selling any junk they happen to come across.
Fainting spells, by the way, would be caused by LOW blood sugar in a diabetic who is on medication, not high blood sugar. Your friend has something else wrong with him.
Tell your friend to get his head out of the sand. Dealing with diabetes is a lot easier if you have a clear treatment plan. Sounds like he is trying to manage his fears by taking a pill. If he does not have diabetes, taking the glucose lowering tablets can kill him. Just so you know there are no insulin tablets; insulin is destroyed by the stomach acids that is why insulin is injected. Tell your friend to man up and see a doctor.
he could have diabetes but he could also have a number of other conditions as well. If you take diabetic medication and are not a diabetic you could die. Make sure he sees a doctor. there are free clinics in almost every city. make him go.
It may not be diabetes and yes there is a danger in taking tablets that you don’t even know they are needed he will have to go to a doctor it’s not as bad now getting checked out for diabetes as well as treating it.
Go to a doctor, that can KILL you if you’re not really diabetic. I’ve been diabetic since I was 2.
IT IS NEVER SAFE TO TAKE MEDICINES WITHOUT DOCTOR’S PRESCRIPTION. GO SEE A DOCTOR.
Hi,
Taking insulin tabs if you don’t need them is dumb.
Make him understand that diabetes is the 5th biggest killer in the planet. Get him checked out Now.
Recently my Wife of 50 years became a type 1 Diabetic it nearly killed her. Now she has to live with injecting twice a day and really watching her diet.
Your friend has one life, tell him to get a grip and get checked out.
