How does diabetes affect size of baby?

I understand that the baby will be considerably larger, but does this affect your due date? I just found out a few weeks ago I have diabetes among other issues and haven’t gone for my ultrasound since I found out. Do you think they will change my due date? My original due date was Jan. 8?

My Aunt developed diabetes when pregnant and from what she went through, No.
She gave birth to a 7 pound 7 baby girl . I think that is normal. the chances of you having pre eclampsia are high though.
They probably won’t change your due date. They measure your due date 40 weeks from the start of your last period. That isn’t going to change. Your baby could just be large and you could still go 40 weeks. One of my friends had the same thing happen (diabetes) and ended up with a 10 pounder and a C section. Now her second is due (diabetes again) and she is having another C section on Sept 20. I think you are just at risk for more complications and possible C section with a larger baby.
Your ob/gyn will change your due date if they think the baby is getting too large. I had gestational diabetes and some other issues and had to go for monthly sonograms as well. My advice to you is to follow the diet, drink plenty of water , test your blood glucose religiously, keep a log of the readings, speak to a nutritionist who knowledgeable in gestational diabetes and get as much rest as you can. Good luck.
