Diabetes greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, birth defects, and high birth weight. You have to be very careful to work with an endocrinologist before conceiving, and throughout the pregnancy to keep your BG's very tight - they want A1C's less than 5.5. I chose not to have kids because I wasn't willing to take the risks, but more and more diabetic women are choosing to do so. That’s correct, but it’s not a fertility issue.
