How Old Must You Be If You Ever Get Diabetes?

Just wondering how old you had to be to get diabetes? Can you be young or must you be old/middle aged? Sorry about the couple of diabetes questions I asks. I’m just worried.

if you are overweight, you can get Type II early (young)….
Type II can also be beaten, loose weight and eat properly is usually all it takes… but this is something a doc can tell you… if you are worried, have your doctor do a blood work analysis to check your blood sugar levels and your chlolesteral too… then he will tell you what you need to change (if anything), but if your are overweight, you should def expect to have the doc give you a lecture (at a min) and possibly a slue of medications…
type I is the one you are born with and typical to have the insulin injections, if you were that one, you would probably know by now…
but a doctor visit is the best thing to do regardless….

You can be any age to be diagnosed with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. More and more teens and preteens are being diagnosed.
Misconception is that eating lots of sweets or drinking sodas gives you diabetes!! It is genetic for type 2 and disease or injury to the pancreas for type 1.
Being over weight does have a bearing as does having someone in the family who has diabetes.
Symptoms are excess thirst and running to bathroom, unexplained weight loss, severe hunger without weight gain, some times bad temper, fuzzy unfocused feelings.
the first four are the most usual. High glucose will give anyone a rage at nearly anything.
Make an appointment with the doctor for complete physical check up. Ask for complete blood work up.
Go to Walgreen drugstore and get a Side Kick disposable glucometer. They cost around $30 and have 50 test strips. Test first thing in the morning when you wake up. Keep a journal of the testings to take to the doctor’s office. Also in this journal keep record of your foods (don’t cheat!) and your exercise or movement! Even housework, yard work or walking home from school counts.
Talk this over with your mother and be really honest about how you feel. She probably has no clue as to how you feel and would help you clear your mind of this worry. Yeah!! Stress of worrying about a problem causes higher glucose levels too!
    Good luck.

There are three types of the disease type 1 called “childhood diabetes”, gestational or pregnancy , and type two. There are certain risk factors to acquiring the disease, (either type) and age is certainly a factor, but not the only factor. A person of any age CAN develop the disease. I would suggest you research the risk factors and try to eliminate as many as you can from your lifestyle.

There is no age limit on diabetes. You can have diabetes as an infant or as an older adult and every age in between.
