How Rapidly Can You Change Insulin Injection Times With Canines With Diabetes? In Terms Of Minutes?

We really need to wean him onto a new time, but we’re not sure how quickly we can change times. Can it be done by the half hour or does it have to be done in ten minute increments to slowly change the time that we can dose him?? Please help! We need answers!

You didn’t say what type of insulin you have him on.
I use Lantus. The vet said to skip one shot (ours gets two a day) if it’s a question of giving it sooner than 12 hours, or if we’d be gone and unable to get back within an hour of when it was supposed to be. A half hour increment to adjust to a new time was the rule of thumb with Lantus according to my vet.
If you use humulin or Caninsulin, check with your vet on this. Some are short term insulins and you can adjust to a new time easier. But long term ones like Lantus you can’t readjust too quickly.
My problem is getting him to eat enough before so I can give the shot. It helps to home test too, don’t give any shot if their blood tests too low.
