GD is very common and most women with GD have healthy babies. That said, if you cannot get your blood glucose levels under control with diet alone (virtually no woman with GD will go the entire pregnancy without needing injected insulin!) , you need to tell your doctor ASAP and get on insulin: you and your baby need it right now.

The danger does not lie in the fact that you have diabetes, it is more in the levels of your blood sugars.
High blood sugar levels is what causes the damage.
Keeping your blood sugar levels in the normal ranges is of outermost importance.
Keeping the sugar levels normal and it will not harm you or your baby. After all mothers without gestational diabetes do not have any problems caused by sugar levels, so if you keep your sugar levels the same as a “normal” person, how can it harm you?
Just because you are now at a higher risk than others for some complications does not mean that you will experience those complications, be aware of them, keep your sugar levels normal and you and your baby will be fine.

I already had diabetes when I was pregnant- two times.
It is hard work and loads of doctor visits and tests but my three children were fine.
My twins were born 10 week early and diabetes does make you more at risk for pre-eclampsia leading to an early delivery.
My youngest ws fine, born at 36 weeks and we took her home from the hospital right away.
Work closely with your doctors.
Hang in there. I know bed rest can be very difficult.
