There really isn’t much difference. A lot depends on who you ask. Prediabetes simply means that you are insulin resistant. Think of it as a warning that if you don’t start taking care of yourself, you’re going to require medical intervention soon. Pre diabetes diagnosis merely means that your doctor is still living in the dark ages of diabetes care.
With Pre diabetes diagnosis the insurance company will deny you the right to have testing strips paid for by them!! These strips are down right expensive most being about a dollar per strip. That is in the USA. In England you may be denied strips and meters anyway even if you are diagnosed as type 2 diabetic because they don’t believe it is a necessary thing to do.
The symptoms are the same, but to a greater degree in full diabetes. Then you get a whole pharmacy of meds to take!! Diabetics are deemed to be already having had a serious heart event so even if cholesterol and blood pressure are normal you are maxed out on the current meds on the market for treating these two things. They are expensive!!!
Testing glucose on awakening, before some meals and post prandial (1.5 to 2 hours after meal) is very important in changing lifestyle. Must have the testing strips and test foods you eat for what they do to or for you.
it just simply means unless you make changes in your lifestyle like diet and exercise, you will more than likely become a diabetic. i am a pre-diabetic, and was unaware of it until i had a glucose tolerance test.i had started getting shaky and sick at my stomach if i didnt eat, and that is why i was tested. my fasting blood sugars were always normal, but when i had the glucose tolerance test, it revealed that i had hypoglycemia, which is a precursor to diabetes. i tried diet and exercise, and lost 50 lbs., but 2 yrs later, the weight returned, and im sure that in 5-10 yrs, i will be a diabetic unless i lose again. good luck for you.
well from what i’ve heard there really is no -pre-diabets.! my doc. said the same thing to me, for years while having all sorts of problems and its in my family on both sides ,only after extreme weight loss, and so sick i could’nt even make myself drink anything let allone eat.she sent me in for a whole panel of blood work.that sent up a whole bunch of red flags..so tell your doctor you want a full blood panel with the fasting. so that you can rest assured ,you should’nt take anyones word on your ” health.if your worried you should get checked, afterall ‘it’s your health your playing games with.!!
It means you’re on your way to having Diabetes. Now is the time to make a change in your diet and way of living.
