How Much Can I Expect Diabetes To Affect The Cost Of Insuring A Car?

Hello. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 2 years now and soon I will be looking into getting on the road. I am a bit concerned about how much more expensive diabetes will make my insurance cost, especially since it costs large amounts of money normally.
So my question is this: how much can I expect it to affect the cost? I live in the UK if that is relevant.
Cheers

It shouldn’t affect the amount you pay for insurance premiums, but I can tell you that you will have a ‘restricted licence’. This has to be renewed every two to three years in the UK, plus you need to inform the DVLA if you have changes in treatment or if you develop complications such as retinopathy. (Retinopathy is where the rear of the eye is affected, usually due to higher than ‘normal’ blood sugar levels for prolonged periods of time. The DVLA will also request your permission to discuss your treatment with your doctor and your ophthalmologist. They need to be assured by your doctor that you’re not likely to lapse into a hypoglycaemic attack.)

Diabetes does not affect your insurance rates. You do however need to report it to the DMV when applying or renewing your license.
Ive been driving with diabetes for 13 years and it has never been addressed with car insurance.
I do know that you can have your license suspended for conditions like seizures, which you would need a Dr’s note after 6 months of supervision and review by a judge. I have a best friend going through that right now cause he has had 3 seizures behind the wheel.

    Not much.
But it’ll be horrendously expensive anyway, with you being a new, male driver.
Make sure they know, make sure they have all relevant doctors information. If they can prove that you have withheld any medical information that’s relevant, they won’t pay out.
    Good luck.
Get as many quotes as you can.
    Diabetes shouldn’t affect your premiums.

I’d firstly shop around, and ensure they are aware of your diabetes from the onset. Check out: http://www.diabetes.org.uk/How_we_help/F…

It doesn’t, if they charge you more you can get them done for disability discrimination.

I’m in the U.S. so this may not be helpful but,I have never been asked by anyone giving me a license or selling me auto insurance about my health. Since I’ve never been asked I’ve never volunteered the information. Good Luck.

in the U.S. it has nothing to do with car insurance if you have a history of seizures it does..they only thing they are worried about here is DUI’s, felony arrests, wrecks, and tickets.

I live in AZ and even the Motor Vehicle Division doesn’t ask if I’m diabetic. I wonder if this is a UK thing…I don’t believe it affects auto insurance in any state.

It doesn’t affect your insurance that would be discrimination! My dad is diabetic and it doesn’t affect his premium what so ever.
